CCHEST Exam Overview

The CCHEST exam was developed and is administered by the Council on Certification of Health, Environmental and Safety Technologists (CCHEST). One of the top governing boards in the U.S. when it comes to certification in these critical areas, it is part of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). It is their role to test and certify the skills, knowledge, and competence of those people working in the fields of occupational health or occupational safety. Common job titles in this area are Health and Safety Technician and Health and Safety Technologist.

Other positions that may require a person to pass a CCHEST exam are Safety Trained Supervisor (STS), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Loss Control Specialist (CLCS), and Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST). Of course, these are not the only positions whose holders may be required to pass the CCHST exam. Any person working in a job in which much of the work revolves around maintaining health and safety may also benefit from CCHEST certification.

Certification is expected to become a job necessity for anyone seeking a position having to do with occupational health and safety in the near future, as companies want to avoid lawsuits alleging that an uncertified safety or health professional created dangerous working conditions. As a result, the numbers of people taking the CCHEST exam are expected to increase in the foreseeable future.
